VeggieTales

I was offered this book in exchange for my honest opinion AND to give away on my blog! There is one story for every single day of the year which has a Bible passage, short message and prayer. My toddler is only 2.5 years old and he is able to repeat the prayers after I say them. Each page has a different veggieTales character at the bottom as well. My son loves seeing the new pictures each day, and it’s short enough that it keeps his attention. I have the book for boys – not sure if there are different stories / characters in the one for girls as I have not seen that one.

About the Book by the author:

Every Day with God is the latest 365-day devotional (one for boys and another for girls) from VeggieTales. The updated content and art offer the perfect opportunity for parent and child to share time together each day. Each entry includes a Bible verse, short devotion, Thought of the Day, and prayer. The content will help children learn more about God and develop a daily practice to keep Him close in their lives. The book is perfect for bedtime reading, family devotion time, or as a fresh way to start each day!

Baby Baby

Baby, Baby! is a short board book that has babies as the primary focus.  It uses lots of colours and kept my sons attention through the entire book!! It uses a rhyming pattern to make it more melodic when being read aloud – but every second page has the rhyme since it is short sentences. It also teaches/reminds children at the end that they are always loved by God – and also has a large reflective surface/mirror at the end.

The book is recommended for children 1-3 years old.

It was written by Diane Stortz and illustrated by Ailie Busby. It is currently available on Amazon.com for $7.99, or Amazon.ca for $10.99

I thought that this book was pretty awesome and ran a giveaway on my facebook page. It was open to anyone who commented, lived in Canada or the United States, and used the hashtag #BabyBaby.

Captive DVD Giveaway

As some of you may remember, I did a review awhile ago on a book I received called Captive. You can check that one out HERE if you’ve forgotten.

Ashley Smith, a recovering drug-addict (who is barely clinging to the wagon) is abducted outside her home and held hostage by Brian Nichols.

In the movie, as with all films based on a book, there are some details missing. One early example is that in the book she goes to the store to get cigarettes, but in the movie she just gets a package from her car. While some things were changed or omitted, I did feel that the movie was fairly true to the novel.

I did not personally find this movie to be very fast paced, and I would not call this a movie theater film, I do feel its a good rental type movie, or one to own in your collection. Knowing that this is all based on a true story makes this so much more real for me.

Feel free to check out the OFFICIAL WEBSITE, in addition to checking them out on FACEBOOK and/or TWITTER.

Galaxy Buck: Mission to Sector 9

Galaxy Buck: Mission to Sector 9 is a puppet movie from VeggieTales creator PHIL VISCHER! Kids will enjoy Buck Denver’s latest adventure with his friends from What’s In the Bible? There are also many humorous nods to Star Wars and Star Trek. More importantly, Phil Vischer’s gifted teaching delivers a clear message, communicating important Biblical truths that adds to ones faith foundation.

About the movie:
Buck Denver has a simple dream – to save the galaxy. Working for the Galactic Mission Board, Buck dreams of carrying God’s love to every corner of the Milky Way! There are a few things stopping him….. he doesn’t have a starship. Or a crew. Or even a captain’s license. (Just a few minor set-backs really…..). Against all odds, he get the chance to go on a real mission into deep space, but things don’t go at ALL like he imagined! If he’s doing what God wants him to do, why is everything going wrong?

Galaxy Buck: Mission to Sector 9 is a wild, galactic adventure that teaches kids a powerful lesson about trusting God with everything – even our dreams!

I was sent an advanced screening of this movie, and thought the movie was well polished. It delivers an important message to kids. God does not want you to do “big things”, God just wants you.

“The fruit of the Spirit doesn’t come from working for God, it comes from walking with God.”

You can see more information about this movie that was just released October 20, 2015 on their website, Facebook page, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram. You can also get a FREE family pack (need to enter your email address on their site).

#CaptiveMovie and Book Review

We’ve all had things we’ve went through. For some of us, it’s a break up, for others a car accident, a killer bad grade on your exam. Maybe it’s even loosing your job and having to move. The list of things are numerous, but for Ashley Smith, it was being held hostage in her own home, by a man named Brian Nichols who had already gone on a killing “spree” before making his way to her – several towns away.

Ashley was a recovering drug addict, who occasionally felt the need to use just a little – you know, to get her through the day. Her daughter was being raised by her mother and aunt, since Ashley was no longer safe to be around her daughter. She would become paranoid and reckless when high on “ice” (meth). She once thought that God wanted to drive the car for her, and let go of the steering wheel while going down a steep hill. She was checked into a mental institution after this, and went through rehab.

Even with all the problems in her life, she still was not able to stop using drugs. Not for the sake of her daughter while she was pregnant, nor now while trying to get her daughter back.

BUT — when Brian showed up in her parking lot, and shoved her into her own apartment at gun point, things began to instantly change. She spoke to him about God, about her daughter, and her past mistakes. After several hours, she began to realize that God made sure he arrived at her front door, and it was up to her to make sure no more people got hurt, including Brian. He lets her leave her apartment and he ends up turning himself into the authorities!

Not only is this story unbelievable, it is a TRUE story and also a major motion picture as of September 18th.

Here is the official movie trailer

The following is a Faith Featurette from the movie.
